My computer is acting very strange. When I go into the control panel, I have two headsets show up. If I try to set this as the default, I can not hear anything else while the zoom meeting is running, the test tone will not play, and the volume mixer simply will not work.

If I set this as the default device, however, all my problems are solved except that the audio quality is very poor and there is always static in the background. I don’t think there is any solution to this, just wanted to let you know in case my headphones are bad or this is not supposed to happen. Edit: the “stereo” headphones bring up the quality significantly and the volume mixer works with it but only when I’m not in a zoom meeting.

Could you explain how you changed the audio input device to the same as system for both microphone and speakers? I had the same problem. I solved this by changing the audio input device to same as system, both microphone and speakers.

Hi Bhavesh,. I had the same problem I tried to solve this using Bhavesh’s method it did not work I still don’t know how to solve this. I tried many ways like messing with audio settings but still it did not work. Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community. When I am in a zoom meeting, I am unable to hear anything except for the audio from the meeting. You may also want to make sure Zoom has permission to use the microphone, which can be accessed through your phone settings. On an iPhone, navigate to the Zoom app within your settings, then make sure that the microphone option is toggled on.

In this case, the issue is probably in your speakers, so be sure to check your selected speaker source and the volume levels on your device. Make sure the correct speaker is selected if not, select the correct speaker. If you don’t see the Join Audio option, double-check that the speaker icon in the top-left corner of the screen doesn’t have an “x” next to it ; if it does, tap the icon to enable the speaker. If the sound is getting through, but the quality is subpar, there could be a few things going on:.

In some cases, it’s best to ask everyone to check that they mute themselves when not speaking. That can help cut down on background noise, too. You may also need to ask people to mute one at a time so you can isolate the issue and have the person who is causing the audio issue fix it. If after troubleshooting your audio on your computer you still can’t get it to work, the phone audio option is a great alternative.

Of course, you can also use a third-party service like Down Detector. The camera may be turned off by default, so click the camera icon in the taskbar to turn it on. Make sure the toggle under the Camera access section is on. Also, ensure Zoom has access to the camera by toggling the option under the Let apps access your camera section. Go to Settings in Zoom and then Video to choose the right device.

If you use multiple apps that take advantage of the camera, other software might be occupying it. Make sure to close any unneeded apps. If all fails, Zoom recommends uninstalling and installing the application. Related: The best webcams available. If so, you probably closed the window that popped up before you logged into a meeting.

Instead of closing it, make sure to press the Join with Computer Audio button instead. Just in case you forget again, you can select the Join Audio option in the bottom-left corner of the screen during a meeting, and then click the already-mentioned Join with Computer Audio button.

If you clicked the button, but no one could hear you speak, you could have a muted mic. In this case, the mic icon in the bottom-left corner will be crossed out. Just click the icon to unmute yourself or press space — both options work. Related: The best microphones. This used to be a significant issue when Zoom was gaining popularity. Unexpected visitors would join meetings and start going crazy, going as far as sharing indecent images and videos.

My Mac can’t access the mic: Sometimes your Mac might say it can’t access the microphone and ask you to restart. This might then ask for admin permission. Entering your details can then correct the mic fault without having to restart.

Ensure your PC audio settings are correct: If you’ve not been able to fix the problem through Zoom itself, then check your settings or preferences on your computer. Above everything else, check they actually work to help isolate the problem.

Background noise is disrupting the call: If there’s too much noise around you – people in the house, traffic noise, animals, aircraft, then consider using a noise cancelation app like Krisp. This can cut the background noise so you come across sounding clearer. It can also cut background noise from others on the call, so you don’t hear their noise either. Zoom has its own background noise filter too, which you can find in settings.

Otherwise the only sound people will get is that coming through your mic. This option is in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen share options. There are echos or feedback on the audio: This usually happens when a mic detects audio coming from the speakers. It might be that the microphone is too close to the speakers, it might be that someone is using a phone and computer or that multiple computers are too close together.

Muting the mic can resolve the problem or identify which participant s are causing the problems. No one can see me: If you can’t be seen – and can’t see yourself – start by checking you’ve started video on the call.

Press the button in the bottom left-hand corner to make sure you’ve joined video on the call.

Pocket-lint – As more and more people turn to services like Zoom , many are encountering problems that need fixing, and if that’s you, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered with some of the quickest and easiest fixes for Zoom problems if you run into troubles. First and foremost, if you can’t get Zoom to work, you should check Zoom’s service status to see if the problem is at Zoom’s end. Point your browser at status.

Shut down apps you’re not using: Zoom and any video application can be demanding on your computer and internet connection, so it’s worth shutting down apps you don’t need if you’re having problems. That frees up resources for Zoom to use.

Make sure you’re using the latest version of Zoom: There have been a number of Zoom updates recently, the latest version at the time of writing is Zoom 5.

You’ll usually be prompted to update when you open Zoom if there’s an update, but it’s always worth checking, as some features change between updates. My app keeps crashing or closing: First of all, do both of the things above. If you’re still having problems, try restarting your computer.

If that doesn’t solve it, check if there are any software updates for your computer. Zoom says my connection is unstable: Unfortunatly this happens from time to time. This is a local connection problem so the first thing is to check your Wi-Fi connection or wired connection. It’s worth running a speed test – just Google speed test and you’ll get the option to run a quick test where you can see if there really is a speed problem.

If you’re using Wi-Fi, see if you can plug into a wired connection instead, as it’s likely to be more stable than Wi-Fi, or move closer to your router. This is definitely worth doing if you always have a connection problem on Zoom. If it’s a one-off problem, there’s likely nothing you can do about it except wait for the problem to pass – you could try stopping all other activity on your connection to let Zoom have all the bandwidth available.

Check you’re not muted: When you join a Zoom meeting you’ll normally have to click to activate the microphone, because you’re muted.

Look for the microphone icon in the bottom left hand corner, if it’s crossed out, click it to unmute your microphone. If you’re on the mobile app, you’ll have to “join with audio” to be able to speak or hear sound.

If using an external microphone: Many external mics have they own mute feature – make sure the mic itself isn’t muted. Check your Bluetooth connection: If you join a call and no one can hear you, check you’re not connected to a Bluetooth headset elsewhere in the house.

It might be that an existing connection has claimed your audio. Or, if you want to use a Bluetooth headset, make sure it’s properly connected to the device running Zoom. Check the audio source in Zoom: If you’re in a call and no one can hear you, you can click on the up arrow to expand the audio button in the Zoom app. You’ll then see the options available on your computer so you can use the correct microphone.

Check the audio settings in Zoom: Similar to above, if you’re not in a meeting you can open Zoom, open the settings and head to “audio”. Here you’ll have the option to set your preferences as well as test the microphone and speaker on your PC to see if it’s working. If your mic is too quiet, you can turn up the levels here. My Mac can’t access the mic: Sometimes your Mac might say it can’t access the microphone and ask you to restart.

This might then ask for admin permission. Nothing is more frustrating than not being able to hear what the speaker or other participants are saying during a Zoom call. Sometimes the problem may not be Zoom but your computer or mobile device. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try. Disconnect any audio device connected to your computer such as a Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth headsets. If so, disconnect Bluetooth and the Bluetooth audio device from your computer and check whether the audio works again. Sometimes Zoom audio may fail to work because of pending updates on your computer. Restart your Zoom call by leaving the meeting and re-joining using the same Zoom credentials.

If prompted about Microphone access, select Allow to give Zoom authorizations to use your mic. Sometimes the problem may not be with the Zoom app but with your computer or mobile device. You can start by checking the volume levels on your device or moving closer to your mic. If none of these quick fixes resolve the issue, move to specific troubleshooting steps for your device as listed below.
